Life for Palestine refugees has been defined by movement restrictions and fear long before the spread of coronavirus; but to make matters worse, their basic food, health, and educational needs are at severe risk because UNRWA, the Agency they rely on for their necessities was defunded in 2018 by its biggest donor. Until 2018, the United States government annually provided $360 million in humanitarian assistance. Funding is so tight now that after the month of April, the fate of UNRWA remains unknown.
In the Gaza Strip, one million Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip are relying on UNRWA to meet their most basic food needs. Their right to food, a human right, is non-negotiable but is being neglected by our government and all those who turn a blind eye to Gaza. But, I am committed to doing something about it by using my platform to raise awareness and funds, and I hope you will join me in filling the pantries of Palestine refugees.
Together, we can provide critical food assistance to Palestine refugee families -- just $150 can fill the pantry of a Palestine refugee family and put food on the table as they come together with their loved ones to break their daily fast and for the two months after Ramadan ends.
Let us contribute to the wellbeing of others this Ramadan and beyond. Thank you for your generosity and for helping me reach my fundraising goal!
Donations to UNRWA’s cash and food assistance programs are zakat eligible as certified by the National Zakat Foundation.
